Subject Aim

In order to be a successful student and to develop career skills ready for work, it is essential to understand and integrate a range of tertiary tools and skills that students can use to demonstrate their growing academic ability and career readiness.    

This subject takes a holistic approach in supporting students on their pathway to success. It focuses on supporting your smooth transition into the Institution and developing their academic skills and performance, so they maximise success in their chosen course. Through engaging classroom activities, students will get to test out their growing informational literacy and interpersonal skills; using them to clearly communicate to a given audience both orally and in writing. Towards the end of the subject, students will focus on what lies ahead; developing an employability toolkit which will help them enter and succeed in the professional workplace.  

Learning Outcomes

a) Describe how personal strengths relate to chosen study and future career. 

b) Demonstrate tertiary academic and research skills and apply them to academic and information literacy and professional competencies.  

c) Arrange a portfolio to support academic and professional success. 

d) Express ideas in both written and oral forms to communicate effectively. 

Student Assessment

Students are required to prepare for assessments by reading the subject matter in course notes, handouts and readings, as well as independently researching. Class work and practical application of theory assist in reinforcing the importance of this subject’s topics. Each student is required to participate in class discussions and activities.
