Sport management students from ISCA & ICMS were recently offered a unique view of the sports industry at the sixth annual Sydney Student Sports Summit, held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The Sports Summit, held in November 2023, and organised by ISCA General Manager Ian Evans, was attended by close to 50 students and staff who were addressed by several leading sports administrators, CEOs and senior management.

“The purpose of the Sports Summit as always is to offer our students a first-class experience where they can engage with sports industry leaders and showcases our excellent links with the sports industry and creating a culture of excellence for our students,” Sports Summit Director and ISCA General Manager Ian Evans, said.

The keynote speakers included Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas, Chief Operating Officer South Sydney Rabbitohs Shannon Donato, and NSW Waratahs General Manager (Commercial Operations) Adam Fulepp.

Aside from the opening panellists speaking on Leadership in Sports & Business, the Summit featured two panels including one consisting of former ISCA & ICMS graduates who have just entered the sports industry.

The final panel featured coaching & high-performance experts speaking on athlete education & welfare post-retirement from professional sports.

The final keynote address was delivered by former NRL Head Coach Anthony Griffin, who has coached 200 NRL games for the Penrith Panthers, Brisbane Broncos & St. George Dragons.

Griffin spoke to our graduating ISCA students on the importance of resilience, determination & work ethic.

“The Sports Summit was an outstanding success,” Evans said. “And I was really pleased to catch up with ur former graduates who are now making their mark in the sports industry, and who can talk to our current students about the link between what they learnt in the classroom to what is occurring in the professional sports sector.”

Former ISCA student Ella Morgan attended the Sports Summit – this time as a staff member – and said the event gave her the opportunity to network with fellow students and sports industry professionals.

“The summit allows students to gain real insights into what working in the sports sector is really like, and also allows attendees to see first-hand the industry-specific partnerships that ISCA has developed,” Morgan says.

ISCA currently has several sports industry partnerships with NRL clubs the canterbury-Bulldogs, Manly Sea Eagles, as well as the NSW waratahs & Football NSW>

Evans thanked the panelists, his staff and students fand Merivale or a great day at the SCG.
