“Having completed more than a year’s study in sport science at University, I found the hands-on practical approach to learning and small class sizes at ISCA to be really unique, allowing students to work together and get very involved in the learning experience.”
Sarah was first attracted to rugby when she was 16-years-old, and her passion for the sport has earned her a prominent leadership role within the Manly Mermaids Women’s Rugby 7s squad.
“I just thought it was a natural fit for me,” Sarah says. “The game of rugby has allowed me to enhance my communication and team-work skills, whilst also forming friendships which hopefully last for a very long time.”
Sarah was awarded the inaugural ISCA/ Manly Mermaids Scholarship in 2019, and says the scholarship has assisted her with balancing her full-time studies with the International Sport College Australia, and her chosen sport.
“We play numerous tournaments throughout the year, and rugby7s is really evolving into a year-round game, “ said Sarah. “The scholarship has helped me financially but also allowed me to focus on my area of interest – high performance sport – and continue working towards a career in the sports industry.”
Sarah says the practical seminars and workshops in areas such as strength & conditioning, speed and agility, as well as movement efficiency and injury prevention & management, made learning fun and more relevant to her sporting career.
